What is Thyroid Eye Disease (TED)?

Thyroid Eye Disease (TED), also known as Graves’ Ophthalmopathy or Thyroid Orbitopathy, is an autoimmune inflammatory disorder affecting the orbital tissues around the eyes. It is primarily related to Graves’ disease, but TED is a distinct condition requiring different treatment.

  • Affects up to 50% of people with Graves' disease¹
  • Approximately 1 in 10 TED patients develop it without having Graves' disease
  • Can occur in people with hypothyroidism or normal thyroid function
  • More common in women, typically between ages 30-50
